Pacific Science Center Takes Step to Preserve
Legacy, Prepare for the Future
The Science Center files for Historic Landmark Nomination
Seattle- On February 26, 2010, Pacific Science Center filed to nominate
its Seattle campus as a City of Seattle Landmark. This move will allow us
to evolve into a 21st century institution while honoring and building on our
past.
Pacific Science Center has inspired generations of curious minds under its
iconic arches for 48 years. Over nearly five decades, we have hosted and
educated millions of guests in our region, the state and from around the
world. When we opened in 1962, we became one of the first science
centers in the nation. Since that time, we have adhered to our mission of
using interactive and innovative exhibits and programs to inspire a lifelong
interest in science, technology, engineering and math.
Pacific Science Center is an important, not-for-profit community asset that
requires maintenance and upgrades to remain viable. We are working to
envision our long-term future to ensure that we can continue to meet the
needs and expectations of a changing community.
We have created a vision for an exciting future. Our new strategic plan,
developed with broad community input, lays a foundation for the Science
Center to better serve guests of all ages and stages of life. An upcoming
master planning process will help improve the experience for the
generations of children and families who will visit in the next 50 years. We
plan to expand our role as a driving force for science education and
continue to foster scientific literacy throughout our community. All our
efforts will ensure that Pacific Science Center’s next 50 years are as
inspiring and engaging as its first.
